Now that your bobbin is wound, get it inserted in your Singer sewing machine and you’re ready to start sewing.

I am about to take a hammer to my sewing machine. I am going to buy a new one that has a “drop and sew” bobbin feature.

Check out my video list on my channel — I have a video on threading the bobbin. If your bobbin is different, check out my favorites. I favorited some other Youtube users’ videos about sewing machine bobbins.

How do I re-thread the bobbin?

Try just sliding the thread along that left edge. You may also have a different model with a different bobbin case.

Keep trying, and do some searches for the user manual for your model on the internet. Always good to have a copy of your user manual.

Help! I keep watching the video but I can’t get the part after putting the bobbin in the case. On your diagram you point out the two notches to put the thread through but I can’t figure out what or where the second notch is. It’s been so many years since I sewed, it has completely left my mind!

Not a stupid question. You may have a self winding bobbin machine. The newer ones are like that ;) .

If you do have an older machine, you need to insert the threaded bobbin for the lower thread. Essentially a sewing machine takes thread from both above and below the two fabric layers and causes them to intertwine to form the stitch.
    Hope that helps.

ok this is going to be a stupid question but why would you need to insert a bobbin? do you have to do that if you’re sewing a certain style?

The bobbin thread becomes your lower thread, I have a good video by someone else in my favorites about how sewing machines work,I think.

You have to get that bottom bobbin thread up through the face plate by using the needle to catch it, that’s what this video is about.

After it’s through the notches, you just use the hand crank and let the machine pull up the thread, then un-loop them and you’re ready to go! HOpe that helps!

Hi Im new to sewing and I need some help. Ive watched all your videos but I get confused with this part. Ive threaded the first thread through the needle correctly. When it comes to the bobbin thread, im totally confused. I have it in there and through notch A around to notch B. Then i have no clue where to place it. I dont even kno what this bobbin thread does??? sorry help please?

That’s odd, since nothing changed. Sometimes when that happens to me, I just play with the tension to see if I can get it right again, or hold my breath and rethread the whole machine and bobbin again.
    Good luck!

    How is it I can sew, sew, sew, but every time I come back to it… I can’t remember how to load OR thread a bobbin? Why do these little things hate me so? And, gosh darn it, I loaded it properly and my machine’s going KATHUNK, KATHUNK. I think I’m going to explode. ;_;

I am sewing jeans, (shortened legs) and had no problem with the first 3 3/4 legs. Suddenly fthe bobbin side keeps bunching. That’s the only way I can explain it. Nothing had changed. What’s the answer to this. I had already done another pair with no problems.

    Annoying when that happens!!!
Give yourself more length coming out of your needle. May seem like a bit of a waste, but then the thread doesn’t come out of the needle eye.

    Happy sewing!

I know how to do all this, but why is it that when I sew, all of a sudden the thread comes out of the needle eye? D:

Watch the video again, and note that at 0:43 you are holding the bobbin with the thread coming off clockwise from the bobbin.

    Hope that helps!

Nope, you keep the thread in your left hand, and slide it, click, click through both of the notches. The notches are just there as guides for the thread.

When you drop the bobbin down into the holder is the thread coming off clockwise or counterclockwise ?

“There’s one notch then another notch …” hardly clear. Does it come out of the bobbin holder through the first notch then back into the bobbin holder by the left notch ?

  • 22 sewmarm // Feb 1, 2010 at 9:19 pm

    Embroidery Machines

No, you need both the bobbin thread and the top thread. The principle of the sewing machine is that the two threads loop through each other. I think there’s an article about the history of Singer sewing machines on the internet that shows more about how it does that.

Happy sewing! Just start slowly and practice basics until you’re confident. Then it’s like bike riding – it’s yours for life!

But the boobing thread, what is it for? I don’t know anything about sewing and I have one at my house, my mom says it’s broken but I dount it, I think she gave up trying to figure it out and today I found the manual and start reading it many times about threading and placing the bobbin I think I have a pretty good idea of how’s done now thanks to your videos!!
More basic sewing questions! can I sew without the bobbin thread and use only the thread? (that was confusing lol)
