Try loosening your top tension – sounds like it is too tight and pulling up the bobbin threads which is why they are showing. I would try a size 12 needle. Are you using lightweight bobbin thread?

The bobbin thread coming up through the fabric is not a needle size problem, but a tension issue. You need to adjust the tension on your machine. I regularly use a size 11 titanium needle and have no issues. The only time I change the size of the needle is when using metalic thread which is thicker and requires a larger eye.

what machine do you have. I work at a Bernina sewing centre and teach on the embroidery machines the best needle to use is a ebroidery needle or a size 80 jeans needle it is very sharp, also try loosening your top tension a bit. what kind of threads are you using as well. Hope I can be of more assistance. Wendy
