EQ is a complicated program, and when one wants to make something truly their own, it is impossible to figure out. Some of the interfaces are not friendly, IMHO, and this program could be a lot easier. Will continue to muddle through...
It will take some getting use to. But it is fun learning as you go.

This is good software for Quilters who like to see there patterns before they start to cut. You learn new ways to put quilts together.
EQ5 Software lacking in some Areas

Reviewer: E. B. Hinerman,
If you are trying to decide between EQ5 and EQ6, going with EQ6 is the product to choose. I tried to work with EQ5 to try to save some money, and there are some functions missing that I need - and EQ6 has them.
I am specializing in New York Beauties quilts, and EQ6 has a pre-made grid for making blocks with curves, and spikes, so you can draw your own. If you import New York Beauties patterns into EQ5, (and have copyright permission), you can modify them slightly, but you cannot change size or number of spikes, etc., without a lot of trouble, because there is no grid to start out with.
I also understand that EQ6 is much more user-friendly. I look forward to that. You can do a lot with EQ5, but it can be like jumping through hoops to get your quilt pattern put together.
To Hard to Make Work.

The tutorials are to simplified to get anything done, and yet take to long to understand and to be able to use for anything I might want to make. There is little not no support unless you are great at learning new software on your own. By the time I get it figured out how to use the software sort of, I could have have several quilts done. I have tried this several times and even made it quasi work, but each time I pull it out to use, it's like trying to use it for the first time. At least with graft paper you can quickly see your progress. It was way to expensive to buy without the support of classes. Some will figure out how to use it and adore it, but for the average user, it is not worth the time or money. I would just like to know how to build a simple 12.5 block around a 7 inch square. It shouldn't be this darn hard to figure out. I will keep a lookout for a better quilt block program. This one is not it. I would only recommend for someone that is a expert in cad design.
